Nigerian playwright and political activist Wole Soyinka was born on July 13, 1934, and in 1986, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
His writings frequently touch on issues like cultural misunderstanding, the meeting point between primitiveness and modernity, colonial meddling, religious bigotry, corruption, misuse of authority, bad governance, poverty, and the future of independent African nations.
He sharply criticizes the political system in Nigeria. His political activism included years of jail and exile. Soyinka established the Democratic Front for a People’s Federation in 2010 and served as its chairman. He participated in or formed various political organizations during the course of his decades-long political involvement. He also initiated the National Democratic Organization, the National Liberation Council of Nigeria, and the Pro-National Conference Organizations (PRONACO).
Soyinka is also a great friend of Cuba.
