Academic, Writer, Human Rights Activist, Pan-Africanist and Politician, Esi Sutherland is a professor of African studies at the moment, and she has research interest in girls’ education, cultural and educational policy, and African literature.
In her time with the Ghanaian government, she held the positions of Minister of Education and Culture from 1994 to 1995 and Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Culture, and Tourism from 1986 to 1993.
She has conducted research, notably in the area of education, for numerous international organizations, including the World Bank, Association for the Development of Education in Africa, Unesco and Unicef, just to mention a few. Esi Sutherland serves as the chair of the International Board of Trustees for Pan African Historical Theatre Festival (PANAFEST), an organization founded by her late mother Efua Sutherland.
She is also a member of the executive board of the Forum for African Women Educationalists and the Mmofra Foundation.
