Issa Gulamhussien Shivji, who was born on July 15, 1946, is a professor emeritus of public law and the university of Dar es Salaam’s inaugural Julius Nyerere Professorial Chair in Pan-African Studies.

A well-known radical academic and activist who has written and led discussions about, peasantry, pan africanism, class struggle in Tanzania, economic justice and human rights.
